PROJECTS
Play. Brunch. Work. is passion project two years in the making. The first event theme was, appropriately, 'Taking a Leap'. Five events and one fundraising drive later, I am humbled and energized by the friends and colleagues who truly took this leap with me.
Speaking at Ignite Phoenix 19 about hands-on, minds-on science education was singular in my experience as an instructor and presenter. 850 audience members, 18 speakers, 5 minutes, 20 slides, and 1 me. Never have I felt so unique and in such good company. But, Ignite Phoenix is special like that.

Learning the art of storytelling, one event at a time. As a teller for the June 2019 Storytellers Project event, "My Culture. My Identity," I spoke about my family's history with fighting a genetic disease and fighting the 108-year-old curse of the Chicago Cubs.
Musical Instrument Museum's first collection of arts-integrated educator resources for Kindergarten-2nd grade: Musical Instruments and Animal Art of Asia align with AZ Academic State Standards and AZ College and Career Readiness Standards.
Let's get 'dinosaur-ing'! In summer 2018, I was Making Curators out of Third Graders and teaching as a contract educator in one of my favorite places in the world, the Arizona Museum of Natural History.

The STEM + Music curriculum, for grades 3-8, demonstrates that music and the arts can be a gateway into the physical sciences and the scientific process. The purpose of this curriculum is to encourage 3rd-8th grade students to discuss, discover, and argue over what is sound and whether any musical instrument (whether it's one they've heard before or something completely new) can be classified into families or groups. Created for the Musical Instrument Museum (Phoenix, AZ).
It's not a challenge to convince kids that ancient flying reptiles are cool. But, inspiring them to see connections between beak form and hunting behaviors; ask questions about the mechanics of flight across mammals, birds, and flying reptiles; and imagine they are paleontologists on a dig, carefully picking through toothpick-sized fossil bones? Now, that's a challenge I'm up for. Arizona Museum of Natural History asked me to create activity pages and write-ups about ontogeny and the evolution of flight to accompany the exhibition Rulers of the Prehistoric Skies.
Early childhood educators range from prekindergarten to second grade. Co-creating this packet of activities to promote musical play for the Musical Instrument Museum reminded me that educators are not only working with children, but are accountable to parents and caregivers as well. Creating language and resources that these educators could wield when working with parents and administrators was fun and challenging. Sounds All Around is one of my favorite projects.
